DIY Reading Corner

For the first year and a half of mine and Colin’s marriage we lived in 4 different homes, and in 3 different cities. When we were finally able to buy a house we were so excited! It meant we could stay in one place for more than 11 months! We moved into our home when Ellie was almost 6 months old. Before she was born, when she was born, and after she was born we had accumulated so many books… I’m talking in the hundreds. That meant we needed a place to put them all. In our house we had the perfect little area to put them all.

Across from the bathroom there is a little nook. When we came to look at the house it was owned by a single mom with teenage kids, so the corner was used as a sitting corner. It had a nice lounging chair and a side table with a lamp. We thought then that it would be a good idea to have Colin’s work desk there, but this turned out better! We took a side table that my mom had as a kid, sanded, and painted it (please excuse the missing handle!). It was used in Ellie’s room in the old house but it worked better here! We filled it with books and found a lamp. My friend gave us a bean bag chair and I found some letters at the dollar store, to write out the word “READ”. The chalkboard on the wall was used for Ellie’s monthly updates, so now I can use it for quotes! Lastly, we got spice racks from IKEA (thank you, Pinterest!) for bookshelves on the well! Oila! If you have a space in your house you’re looking to use up here’s an idea for you! Most mornings I wake up to Ellie having crawled out of bed and sitting by her books looking at pictures. I don’t think we could have picked a better place!

Do you have a reading room or area? Where in your house is it? Leave a comment below and let me know!
